The reeds from which these Fishtrap Baskets are woven grow in the floodplains of the Western Province of Zambia. The yearly rains replenish the stock of bream and barbel that provide the Lozi people their sustenance, along with the rice, maize and exotic fruits that flourish in these wetlands. The original purpose of this basket was to trap fish, hence the name.
The clean modern lines of these baskets are enhanced by the simple metal stand, which is included.
