Athena
Athena was born from Zeus' head one day when he was suffering from a terrible headache. Zeus asked Ares (some myths say Hephaestus) to cleave his head open with an axe to relieve his suffering. When he did, out sprang Athena, fully grown and fully armed letting out a fierce war cry that shook all of the earth. She is said to be Zeus' favorite child and the only one trusted to wield his thunderbolt.
Her counterpart, Ares, is the God of the savage and chaotic aspects of war, whereas Athena rules over the intellectual and strategic aspects of war that also include justice, morality, skill, and civility. She is said to be fierce in battle, always leading the charge in front. Being the Athena is also associated with heroism, it makes sense that she would be the patron goddess of and provide aid to many of Ancient Greece's most famous Heroes including Heracles, Perseus, and especially, Odysseus.
